ITALIAN PROSECCO: BUBBLES AND FRESHNESS

Welcome to EasyGusto, your online grocery store specializing in authentic and rare Italian products! As a family business, we are passionate about quality cuisine and we want you to discover the treasures of Italy. Today, we invite you to immerse yourself in the world of Prosecco, this emblematic sparkling wine from La Botte.

The history of Prosecco

Prosecco is a sparkling wine originating from the Veneto region in northeastern Italy. Its origins date back to the 16th century, when winemakers in the region began producing sparkling wine from the Glera grape variety. For centuries, Prosecco has been considered a celebratory wine, enjoyed on special occasions.

It was only at the start of the 21st century that Prosecco experienced a real explosion in popularity, becoming one of the most popular sparkling wines in the world. Today, the production of Prosecco is governed by a controlled designation of origin (DOCG) which guarantees the quality and authenticity of the product.

The different types of Prosecco

Prosecco comes in several styles, each with its own characteristics. Here are the main varieties:

Prosecco DOC

Prosecco DOC is the most common appellation level. It is produced in a vast geographical area stretching from Veneto to Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This Prosecco is characterized by a fine and persistent effervescence, as well as fruity and floral aromas.

Prosecco DOCG

Prosecco DOCG is the highest appellation, reserved for wines produced in a defined area of Veneto. These Proseccos are generally more complex, with finer bubbles and a longer finish. They are often considered the best representatives of the Glera grape variety.

Prosecco Rosé

Since 2020, it is also possible to produce a Prosecco Rosé, made from a blend of Glera and Pinot Noir. This Prosecco is distinguished by its pale pink color and its notes of red fruits.

How to taste Prosecco?

Prosecco is generally drunk young, within 2 to 3 years after bottling. It is served well chilled, between 6 and 8°C, to preserve all its freshness and effervescence.

Prosecco pairs wonderfully with many dishes, including aperitifs, fish and seafood dishes, salads and light desserts. Its lively and fruity side makes it an ideal companion for summer meals.
